Lady Helen Eno Obareki Hosts PWDs, Encourages Them to Thrive

In a heartwarming show of inclusion, the Patience Umo Eno Golden Initiative for All (GIFA) welcomed a cross section of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) community on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at the Women Development Centre, Uyo. The event, themed “Lean on Me,” is part of GIFA’s preparations for its second anniversary.

Lady Helen Eno Obareki, Chairman of GIFA’s Board of Trustees, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to ensuring PWDs are not left behind, saying, “We don’t want you to just survive, we want you to thrive.” She described the gathering as a fulfillment of her late mother’s vision to create opportunities and hope for the most vulnerable.

The outreach combined motivational talks, health support, and empowerment opportunities. Highlighting GIFA’s dedication to PWDs, two GIFA ICON awards for small business owners are specifically reserved for them, encouraging participation and recognition of their talents.

Guest speaker Chris Vic inspired attendees to focus on their abilities, while partners provided practical support, including food items and mobility aids. Music, dance, and games added to the uplifting and celebratory atmosphere.

Through programmes like Lean on Me, GIFA continues to champion the rights, inclusion, and well being of persons with disabilities, ensuring that they thrive and conquer their limitations.
